Got anything for me?
Not today. (briefly kisses LISA)
(playfully slaps MARK on the chest)
You! (pause) I heard from the insurance
They said that they will pay Johnny’s insurance policy.
One (pause) million (pause) dollars.
(sad and puzzled look) It’s only been two weeks since…
(pause then a faint smile) I guess he would have wanted
it that way. You deserve it.
We… deserve it. You were his best friend and
he loved me so much.
Don't you feel the least bit guilty?
(evil smile) We can finally be together and I have
one million reasons for you to stay.
LISA AND MARK HUG.
ZOOM IN: MARK HAS A LOST, SAD LOOK ON HIS FACE
2. PAN ACROSS THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
3. INT. LISA'S APARTMENT. DAY.
A WOMAN ENTERS AND LISA GREETS HER
Hello, Dear. How are you doing?
(furled brow) Be honest. Tell me.
It’s only been two weeks since…
Since Johnny’s suicide. You can say it.
Oh, whatever. (wrinkles nose)
Let’s talk about you.
Mom, I don’t want to talk about it.
Come now. Johnny was your fiancé.
You must work through this. God knows that I have
to work through my breast cancer.
Mom, I keep telling you that you will be fine.
I need to go now. I am meeting Harold at
my lawyer’s office. (taps Lisa on the nose)
Keep your chin up.
4. PAN ACROSS the San Francisco skyline

Well that about does it.
Just need to unpack and I am home.
Mark, this is pretty creepy.
I mean it is only been two weeks.
Peter, leave the man alone.
He is a big boy. Err… man.
LISA ENTERS AND WALKS OVER TO MARK, KISSING HIM
Hey guys. Thanks for the help. I think that we
can take it from here. (coy smile)
PETER DROPS THE BOX AT HIS FEET
Yeah. I’m out of here. See ‘ya.
PETER WALKS OUT, LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN BEHIND HIM
Yeah. I’m out of here too. Have fun.
(awkward look on his face)
(smiling) Goodbye Mike.
Say hello to Michelle for me.
MIKE SCOOTS OUT, CLOSING THE DOOR BEHIND HIM
Come here Loverboy.
(grabs MARK by the collar and kisses him)
A PICTURE FRAME FALLS FROM A SHELF. THE TWO LOOK OVER. IT IS A PHOTO OF LISA AND JOHNNY
I thought that I put that away.
(picking up the frame and holding it to her chest)
MARK FOCUSES ON LISA GRASPING THE PHOTO CLOSE TO HER CHEST.
9. STILL SHOT OF THE TRANSAMERICA BUILDING
10. INT. UNKNOWN APARTMENT. DAY
MIKE WALKS IN. DEJECTED. A WOMAN ENTERS THE ROOM CARRYING A METAL PITCHER.
Mike. What’s wrong. You look terrible.
I… I… I lost my job at the candy factory.
MICHELLE DROPS THE PITCHER
Oh, Mike. What happened?
Yep. It was me thievery. They have me
on video stealing the “love chocolates”.
MICHELLE GASPS AND PUTS THE TIPS OF HER FINGERS TO HER LIPS
I tried to tell you. (growing angry)
Was it worth it? Was it?
MIKE GAZES INTO THE AIR FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE AN ETERNITY AND SMILES
Yeah. It was worth it. Remember the time
when we were in Lisa’s apartment.
MICHELLE INTERRUPTS HIM
You mean the first time that we met Lisa’s mother
even though we were friends with Lisa for
years and years? Even more odd is that
her mother comes over all of the time and
we never once crossed paths?
And you forgot your underwear?
No. The time that you tried on that
red dress of Lisa’s.
How about the time that you tried it on?
BOTH LAUGH HARDER. MIKE SHAKES HIS HEAD. MICHELLE BOUNCES HER BROW AND SIGNALS TOWARD THE BEDROOM. THEY RUN INTO THE BEDROOM.

12. EXT. BACK ALLEY. NIGHT
A THUG IN A KNIT CAP STANDS IN THE SHADOWS. DENNY APPROACHES.
You got my money, Denny?
DENNY TRIPS A BIT ON SOME TRASH CANS
It’s… right here.
DENNY PULLS A LARGE WAD OF BILLS FROM HIS POCKET AND GIVES THEM TO CHRIS R. CHRIS R COUNTS THE MONEY AND GIVES SOME BACK TO DENNY.
Thank you. I don’t know what I am going to do
now that Johnny is gone.
DENNY BEGINS TO TEAR UP.
(angry) Save it for your shrink. Here is your next job…
THE TWO HUDDLE UP. IT IS VISIBLE THAT CHRIS R IS GIVING EMPHATIC DIRECTIONS TO DENNY, BUT ARE NOT AUDIBLE. DENNY NODS.
13. INT. LISA AND MARK’S BEDROOM. NIGHT
A BREEZE BLOWS THROUGH THE CURTAINS. ANIMAL NOISES LIGHTLY ECHO IN THE ROOM. A PICTURE OF LISA AND JOHNNY FALLS FROM THE WALL. ALL IS CALM. A GUNSHOT PIERCES THE SILENCE. MARK, WHO WAS ASLEEP SITS STRAIGHT UP. HIS FACE IN HORROR.

15. INT. LISA AND MARK’S APARTMENT. LIVING ROOM. DAY.
So that’s when I said, “It not that you are not crazy.
I just don’t want to see you anymore!”.
PETER AND MARK LAUGH
Oh Peter. I do not know how you can stand
to be a psychologist with those people.
PETER PAUSES AND BECOME SERIOUS
It pays well.
THE TWO LAUGH. ACROSS THE ROOM A FRAMED SPOON FALLS FROM THE ENDTABLE. PETER, STUNNED, LOOKS AT MARK.
Yeah, now you have seen it too. This place…
some weird shit has been going on.
Mark. What’s… going on?
It all started just after Johnny’s “incident”.
After the Cleaners finished in the bedroom.
Cold breezes at first. Then moaning sounds.
The latest is shit flying around. I don’t know.
MARK IS FRUSTRATED AND VIOLENTLY SHAKES HIS HEAD
I don’t know, man. But it is really starting
to creep me the fuck out.
MARK AND PETER LOOK AT EACH OTHER FOR MANY SECONDS. THE SILENCED IS PIERCED BY A POUNDING AT THE DOOR.
Mark! Mark! Please let me in!
MARK RUSHES TO THE DOOR AND OPENS IT. DENNY BREATHING HEAVY, FLOPS IN AND ENDS UP DOWN ON HIS KNEES. MARK KNEELS AT DENNY’S SIDE.
Denny. What’s wrong?!
DENNY GASPS FOR AIR. MARK LOOKS UP AT PETER.
I think that I killed Saul.
WHAT?! WHERE?! WHEN?!
Last night. In the alley. I was there to…
To sell him drugs. He has been
really depressed since Johnny’s party.
He blames himself. After the party,
if he hadn’t talked Peter out of going up
and seeing Johnny, then Johnny wouldn’t have…
(voice trailing off) killed himself.
PETER KICKS A CHAIR
What are you two talking about?
It doesn’t matter now.
Denny, what happened?
Like I said, Saul was buying drugs.
He got nervous. Which made me nervous.
I was fumbling with the stuff and he reached out.
I didn’t know what he was doing, so I reached
in the bag, pulled out the gun and shot him.
After that, I don’t know what happened. I just ran.
MARK GOES TO THE WINDOW AND LOOKS DOWN. NEXT TO A SMATTERING OF BROKEN GLASS IS A BODY.
Yep. Looks like Saul. DAMN!
I’m out of here. Saul was an asshole.
I want none of this.

MARK IS SITTING ON THE BED READING A NEWSPAPER. LISA IS TRYING TO MAKE THE BED AROUND MARK.
Hmmmm… Johnny’s old bank just
filed for bankruptcy. Evidently their funds
were not managed properly and there
was rampant embezzlement.
Enough about Johnny. Johnny’s job. Whatever.
Wow! Listen to this. The San Francisco area
has had a serial killer for the past
five or seven years.
That’s an odd set of numbers. (deep in thought)
There has been a coverup at the highest levels of local government. It says that the victims were all exsanguinated
What does that mean?
They were all drained of blood.
(turns up nose) Gross.
MARK LUNGES AT LISA AND PROCEEDS TO FEIN BITING HER ON THE NECK. LISA HAS A HAUNTED OH-SO-FAMILIAR LOOK ON HER FACE.
19. SHOT OF SEAGULLS FLYING OVER THE BAY
20. INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY.
TWO POLICE OFFICERS ARE AT THE DOOR OF AN APARTMENT. OFFICER #1 ONE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR. DENNY ANSWERS THE DOOR.
Are you Denny (cough)?
Errrrr… Yes I am.
We have a warrant for your arrest. On the charge
of the Murder of Saul (cough).
(TURNS TO OFFICER #1)
You ought to have that cough looked at.
I don’t understand.
We will explain down at the station.
DENNY IS CUFFED. LISA AND CLAUDETTE APPROACH.
What’s going on?
This young man is being arrested for murder.
Yes. Now please step aside.
OFFICER #1 TRIES TO PUSH HIS WAY PAST CLAUDETTE. BIG MISTAKE.
Now you listen here. You’re making a big mistake!
Wait. Listen to me.
(becoming upset) Denny, don’t say a word.
We will call Steven and get this all straightened out.
Not another word!
(TO THE OFFICER)
Who did he murder?
When did this happen?
How did it happen?
What is going on? Was it an accident?
Were you angry? Were you scared?
I want some answers, young man!
You’re not my fucking lawyer!
THE OFFICERS TAKE DENNY AWAY
(Crying) Oh, mom!
21. SAN FRANCISCO NIGHT LIFE

THE ROOM IS DARK, SAVE FOR SEVERAL CANDLES. MARK IS SHIRTLESS LYING ON THE BED. LISA ENTERS.
Oh, Mark. It was so awful!
They arrested Denny for murder!
Yeah. What are you going to do?
Mark, do you know something about this?
MARK GETS UP AND WALKS TO THE WINDOW. HE GAZES AT THE STARS.
See for yourself. (motions toward the window)
LISA APPROACHES AND LOOKS OUT OF THE WINDOW. STARTING AT THE STARS, SHE EVENTUALLY LOOKS DOWN. IN THE ALLEY IS A CHALK OUTLINE OF A BODY.
Denny pushed him off the roof?
(somewhat amused) No.
Remember the gunshot the other night.
That was Denny. He killed Saul.
(hysterical) WHAT?!?! No! No!! NO!!!
MARK PULLS LISA TO HIM AND HUGS HER. LISA CRIES ON HIS CHEST.
(sobbing) Oh, Mark.
THE TWO HOLD EACH OTHER TIGHT THEN RELAX. THEY ARE FACE TO FACE. TEARS STREAM FROM LISA’S EYES. THEY KISS SOFTLY. THEN HARDER. THEN HARDER. CAMERA PANS TO CLOSEUP OF HOT CANDLE.

25. EXT. ROOFTOP. DAY.
LISA, DENNY, CLAUDETTE AND A MAN ARE IN A CIRCLE, DEEP IN DISCUSSION. THE VIEW IS QUITE SPECTACULAR.
Steven, what is Denny’s next move?
(TO LISA) Well, it was good that you had
the one million dollar bail to get him out of jail.
He would have been eaten alive.
(TO DENNY) Now that I know your side,
I can best represent you.
I’m scared. Chris R is a bad dude. He is gunna get me.
No, Denny. We will protect you. (looking around)
We all will.
The most important thing for you to do is lay low.
Is there someplace for you to stay?
He can stay with me. Denny lives in the same building,
so that is the last place Chris R will look.
I can’t endanger you, Lisa. What if you get hurt?
I will never be able to forgive myself.
Denny, we are family. (HUGS DENNY).
Everything will be alright.
A CROW CAWS IN THE DISTANCE AND FLIES AWAY
That was strange. (TO LISA) Where did you get
that kind of money and why was this the first
I have heard about it?
Don’t worry about it, Mom.
Oh, alright. Nobody tells me anything.
Denny, Lisa is right, we will protect you.
THE FOUR WALK TOWARD THE DOOR THAT LEADS DOWN INTO THE BUILDING.

DENNY PAUSES THEN GOES TO THE DOOR. HE PEEKS THROUGH THE PEEP HOLE AND SEES THE DELIVERY PERSON WITH THE PIZZA THAT HE ORDERED. DENNY COUNTS OUT HIS MONEY AND OPENS THE DOOR. THE PIZZA DELIVERY MAN IS PUSHED ASIDE AND FALLS TO THE GROUND. IN THE DOORWAY IS CHRIS R.
CHRIS R TAKES DENNY’S MONEY AND THROWS IT AT THE DELIVERY PERSON.
(TO THE DELIVERY PERSON) Now get out of here!
THE DELIVERY PERSON GETS UP AND RUNS AWAY. CHRIS R PICKS UP THE PIZZA BOX AND SHOVES IT INTO DENNY'S GUT. DENNY STEPS BACK AND CHRIS R ENTERS THE APARTMENT.
Hey, Chris R. (pause then begins to cry)
I didn’t tell them anything. At least that you
CHRIS R THROWS THE PIZZA BOX BEHIND THE COUCH.
Come here Denny. We need to talk.
DENNY TURNS AND RUNS. HE TRIPS ON THE COFFEE TABLE IN THE DARKNESS AND CRASHES INTO AN END TABLE. THE ITEMS ON THE END TABLE CRASH TO THE FLOOR. CHRIS R STANDS OVER DENNY. DENNY SCRAMBLES, PICKING UP AN OBJECT AND GETS TO HIS FEET. HE RAISES A SPOON AND POINTS IT AT CHRIS R.
(LAUGHS) You (pause) are (pause) dead!
DENNY REARS BACK AND THROWS THE SPOON AT CHRIS R. BEFORE IT CAN REACH IT’S INTENDED TARGET, AN INCREDIBLY STRONG BLAST OF AIR SWOOPS IN AND CARRIES CHRIS R OUT OF THE OPEN WINDOW. POV SHOT STRAIGHT DOWN AS CHRIS R CRASHES TO THE ALLEY BELOW. THE SPOON HITS THE WALL. DENNY NOW HORRIFIED, LOOKS AT THE WINDOW. DENNY IS ON THE VERGE OF A PANIC ATTACK. THE BLAST OF AIR RETURNS BACK THROUGH THE WINDOW. FROM THE DARKENSS, A LARGE FULL DUFFEL BAG IS TOSSED AT DENNY. HE CATCHES IT, CONFUSED. CAMERA ZOOMS IN ON THE SIDE OF THE BAG. IT READS “SAN FRANSICSO CITY BANK”. A VOICE COMES FROM THE DARKNESS.
Oh, hai Denny. (pause)
Now, leaf and nefur come back.

BLACK COMBAT BOOTS CAN BE SEEN WALKING TO THE DOOR AND THE UNKNOWN PERSON GETS INTO THE CAR. THE ENGINE IS STARTED. THE CAR LIFTS EVER SO SLIGHTLY.
29. INT. LISA AND MARK'S LIVING ROOM.
A CAR ENGINE CAN BE HEARD. LISA LOOKS AT THE CEILING. THE NOISE FADES AWAY. LISA STANDS IN THE DARKNESS
More to come...
